Karidox antibiotics

My guy will normally eat anything!! Oh no not this, I’ve started syringing it, is this the best way?? I’ve read try with apple juice? Do I give him this in the syringe too??

I had to syringe it in to a normally greedy mare, no apple juice or anything else used but we did give a probiotic to keep the guts healthy because it is very strong so if not using some already do consider it.

I fed it in sugar beet. It looked like horrible gray mush but he didn't care...he eats anything and had been on a diet until he needed antibiotics.

ETA: makes a terrible mess and stains clothing and food bowls, be careful with it.

we had a nightmare trying to give this to our ulcer horse - he wont be syringed so tried everything to disguise it ie apple juice, mint, syrup, but absolutely no way would he eat it!

I had to give it in soaked grass nuts and grass chaff as syringing it causes a reaction in his mouth.

Mine wouldn't eat it and doesn't like syringes so I ended up with as much on me as in his mouth. And yes it stains everything!

My vet said the syringe she gave me with it was simply for measuring the dose, not for feeding it to him.

It's often syringed, my vet's attitude was do what you need to do to get it in him. Horse is incredibly fussy and the vet warned that Karidox is not palatable. He was difficult enough to get him to eat the palatable one but then he had an allergic reaction and we had to swap.

The trouble is the dose is quite a large amount for a big horse. My lad was on 60ml x twice a day for what seemed like an age. (severe LV) this summer and in 2015.

He was suspicious and is a fussy feeder but i found using fresh garden mint (at least 6-8 leaves, thoroughly chopped so the smell really was strong), got him eating it well. At this time of year you would need to buy the potted mint in Tesco etc to try it. I use Veteran and Vitality with a good top dressing of quality oats, he ate it all well for weeks.

Karidox can upset the gut and we did have a slightly squidgy bum towards the end of the treatment, but it did the job.

Same. Mine was on 95ml twice day for 20 days! Luckily we had no side effects and it was the third antibiotic we tried and it did have a positive impact on the infection.

Yes I had the same syringing for 3 weeks twice a day absolutely foul stuff even stained the concrete yard .

We've had horse's on this and usually just add molasses to the feed and they've all eaten it no problem.
We keep a tub on the yard so always on hand

My vet swapped from Karidox to doxivet. It is the same drug but you only need half the volume! Much easier amount to try and hide in a feed! I recommend blitzing with carrots and apple in a blender!
Also it does stain but cif cream cleaner I found removes the stain 🙂
