I just must share this..............................................
This made me chuckle, so I just had to share here...
My friend who lives a few doors down from me told me earlier that she witnessed two women riding horses in hi-viz along our street (quite busy) yesterday afternoon, and one impatient driver started honking his horn and screaming obscenities at them through the window as he didn't have enough room to pass. When he was able to pass, he zoomed past, slammed on his breaks (making the tyres screech), got out of his vehicle, and proceeded to give the riders all sorts of crap about horses not being allowed on roads, and that they should pay road tax, etc... You know, the usual BS!
Anyways, the ladies calmly listened to his tirade of abuse, then when they could finally get a word in, they politely informed him that they were both off-duty coppers! My mate said the bloke looked like he was going to drop dead on the spot!
Needless to say, the riders took it very seriously, and he will be prosecuted! Apparently he was also driving an uninsured vehicle lol, so not the smartest tool in the shed! Brilliant!

Amazing!

I have a four year old who is good as gold in traffic. The only thing that scares him are tractors because he's not used to them yet. A couple of weeks ago I was riding through the village with my husband walking beside us and a tractor came driving behind us. I could feel my horse tense up so I signalled to the driver to slow down. He didn't. I moved the horse to the curb and my husband was now holding by the reins a very frightened young horse just wanting to bolt and rearing up with me. The guy still wouldn't stop. I started yelling "Stop the tractor!!!" and the guy stops but continues to have the engine on, my husband still holding on my panicked horse while the tractor guy decides it's a good time to give us a long lecture (with the engine still on) on how I'm not supposed to have a horse on the village road unless he is traffic proof and not scream while my horse is still in full blown panic and my husband barely can hold him. I was FUMING when I got back to the stables ? Apperently the YO has encountered his son who's also an idiot and totally negligent to the fact that horses are flight animals.

something similar happened to me years ago when I took my newly-broken four-year-old on the road for the first time with an escort horse on my outside.

We got a stream of abuse from a guy who stopped in front of us because we were riding two abreast. Unfortunately, he didn't wait for an explanation, just jumped back in his car and shot off. I'd still like to give him an education 25 years on!

Perhaps report to the police, who may be minded to give this man some "words of advice"?
It sounds like a really horrible experience for you, your horse and your husband. Where there any witnesses who could support your complaint?

Unfortunately no. And yes, it was quite a stressful situation. If it happens again I will have a serious talk with him.

I love it when a plan comes together! Excellent result. With regard to tractor driver. If you know where he comes from, report him to the police and get them to re-educate him! I would most definitely.

Many years ago now I rode my first horse through the village with no problem until a motor cyclist came right up her back end and refused to back off. He finally overtook and the horse calmed down. Less than a mile further on I came across the same motorcycle and rider lying in the road: he'd taken the bend too quickly! As a trained first aider I waited with him until I heard the ambulance coming when I left saying "Im off now, you know how agitated she can get".

I had one motorcyclist squeeze by when I was driving the horsebox and nearly put us in the ditch. Stupid idea as it was a 12.5 tonne wagon.

Obviously not the brightest spark as I caught up with him a lime later, sat in the field with his bike on its side. I waited to make sure he could get up then drove off.

I’ve taken to wearing a hat cam.

Within a week of having it, I’d had an incident with a car on a single track lane, driving up from behind, literally about 4’ between my stirrup and her car, when there were pull in spots about 10m ahead. I shouted at her to stop, she carried on.

I sent the footage into the police. They couldn’t tell me the exact outcome due to data protection, but said they had been able to take action that would involve either a fine, points or both.

Please wear a decent hat cam, then no witnesses required, you will have your evidence. I won't ride without one now.

I’ve noticed a massive difference in drivers attitudes if you are wearing a hat cam. They spot it and instantly remember their Highway Code and their manners. I don’t ride without mine now.

Amazing that eh??

That's really good advice, actually! ? Thanks!

I often ride with my big head torch on my helmet, usually not actually on. Seems to have a very similar effect! o_O

Many, many years ago I had something similar when I was 14 and out on my first pony. She was usually rock solid on the roads but was upset by flapping plastic in the hedge and held up some cars. He was yelling at me about how evil I was for taking my pony on the road and went to pat her neck, pony saw a raised hand from a wound up guy and defended herself with her teeth. He left pretty quickly after that.
