Lovely horse , on its record it shows 62 points but has only done 3 shows [not with Katie]and got 17points , does that mean it was imported and given points.
I wish her lots of luck ,I think it is very hard to be in the spotlight and takes a certain type of person.

i agree even if she was the most famous person in the world if she cant ride she wouldnt be there, i wish her all the luck in the world
[/ QUOTE ]
I was under the impression that she was not competing there but was doing a dressage "display", so I would imagine in this case that she is there because she is famous rather then because of her riding ability...
Dont want to get into the eternal wrange over whether she deserves to be there or not but I would be absolutely cr*pping myself if I were her - at the end of the day she is on a horse who with the atmosphere, noise, crowds etc at HOYS could go absolutely mental. The press will be there in droves and she could so easily land up flat on her *rse!! As far as I know she has loads of experience of being in front of the cameras when she is in control but its a completely different kettle of fish on a hyped up horse!! We shall watch and wait!
I can always remember seeing Ferdi Eilberg riding Demonstrater and Mary King riding one of Demonstrater's offspring at a display at Blenheim Horse Trials. The youngster Mary was riding went completely loopy in front of all the crowd - he was only 4 - and she had to be led out of the arena as he went so stupid! IMHO Mary King is a first class jockey so who knows what may happen to KP at HOYS!!!!
Oh get over it. She's there, she's bringing publicity to the sport, the horse is gorgeous, she's no better or worse than most of us so let's just enjoy it. Good on her, I say.
Must be quite nerve wracking to ride into an arena knowing that a lot of people watching are hoping youre going to fall on your a**, makes much better headlines for one things. Takes some bottle, good luck to her (was going to say takes some front but thought better of it)
Yep, she is bringing publicity into the sport and that is always a good thing.
She is a fantastic business woman and is now even making money from her hobby which is pretty damn impressive!!
Loving her horsey (I'm always a sucker for a big black horse with a white face!).
Best of luck at HOYS Katie.
i would take that horse home any day and it looks like a horse that has history of competing, it doesnt look like a novice to me!!!! good luck publicity for dressage and will inspire more kids into the sport maybe?
So many sour graps about. Good on her i say, if i had the money to buy a good horse and ride with top people - i certainly would take all the opportunities i could get.
Just read most of the 70 odd comments on the article on the daily mail... it did all sound very snobby and negative, the 'horsey set' can seem very bitchy sometimes i think.
She may be aiming a bit high, over horsed etc but why not she's not hurting anyone.
I personally dont think its good publicity for our sport at all. Along with her words about how she plans to get to the olympics... makes it sound like our sport is SO easy that we could ALL get to the olympics...!! Ridiculous IMO and it is hurting the sport. Has she not only done prelim and novice tests? Blimey, so have I then I must be able to get to the olympics too!
Sorry, but as someone else said on here - there's more to dressage than performing some "tricks" badly. So true. If she comes back in a few years time a great rider then I'll be more than happy to see that.
I think alot of people are jelous!! Of course your going to be nervous and tense going to do a display for a crowd like that! Im sure you lot would look a whole heap worse in those circumstances, i wouldnt even consider anything like that!
Good on her, shes doing ace!
Not bad publicity at all! She is lots of peoples idol, alot more people may try the sport and enjoy it as much as we do
I didn't really mind her one way or the other until I read the coments printed in a Sunday paper, she apparently said " A lot of people knock me, but until I started this, nobody had read about dressage."
What an arrogant thing to say having had a go at an unaffilated prelim and been bought a schoolmistress. Wasn't there an article in H&H this week about BD membership rising year on year for the last 10 years without the help of KP?
Also was I the only one who thought that she shouldn't have been riding in a double? In the photo in the paper the curb rein is being held in and the poor horse's mouth is wide open trying to escape the pressure.
Oh and thers's no jealousy involved, our own horses range from foals to those competing internationally, if she'd done it well I'd have thought good on her, but to make a mess of it and then come out with arrogant comments just doesn't impress me I'm afraid.
I am not fussed either way about Katie, and "yes" it took a lot of guts to do what she did because it could have gone either way for her, and she was willing to take the risk, which says a lot.
However I am sorry, you can shoot me down in flames if you want, but I watched her show on Sky 2 the other evening and IMHO it made me wince the whole way through. All she looked like was an amateur rider trying to ride a horse that is advanced trained, and she did not know how to push the buttons correctly, and the horse knew that (hence why it was play acting). And yes she did well to stay on and try and get the mare to listen.
But I agree with Riviera, she was only doing an unaffiliated prelim several week ago, and now she is riding in a double, which she obviously had no idea how to use correctly, and the poor horse was fighting against it.
And "no" am not jealous in anyway.....I really do wish her the best. I just think that perhaps she should have waited to do a show of that kind until she was far more established as a rider. Although the cynic in me is telling me it was all publicity for her new clothes range.

Do you believe everything you read in the papers?
Lets face it, if she does get in to the olympics then she would have gone through the selection process and been picked because she is talented and one of the best riders in the country.
If it was to do with money and a place could be brought then we would have a Team GB full of rich talentless 'arrogant' people.
I say it is to do with Jealously and a fear that someone so apparently 'arrogant' could do better than you.
I am quite a fan of katie but it was a pretty diabolical display of riding and hauling on the horses mouth, i really think she was massively overhorsed and was balancing with her hands which were bobbing everywhere, but she sat pretty nicely in the saddle.
I don't think anyone who saw it in on the day could disagree with these comments. I admire her very much but think this was a bit over ambitious!

Well Done Katie! Gorgeous horse!

Heh heh, where did I mention anything about Olympic selection?! Like I said if she'd done it well I'd think good on her but that was not nice to watch. If she makes it the Olympics then great, like you said she will have been selected as the right person but from her performance so far she has a long way to go.
The "arrogant" bit was not about whether she should be riding at HOYS or not, I really don't give a hoot one way or another, it's just her insistance that she is the new face of dressage and is single handedlly putting the sport on the map. Perhaps she should have stayed at home and practised a bit more before mouthing off.
All these people who are talking about her olyimpic venture... So what if she wants to get to the olymics, according to boris down there, there might not even be equestrian events! Get Over it! If shes good enough, we might do well! SHHHHHESSH! Wouldnt you like to ride in the olympics?

I think you'll find money combined with contacts can arrange most things. She has both so riding ability not required (fortunately)
Of course we'd all want to ride in the Olympics! If Katie has got the talent and dedication to get there, she should just get on and do it! Stop the talking, and publicity seeking, do as normal sports people do and do the work! Shes fortunate to have the money to get the best training, horses etc so lets see if she can deliver.
To me its like a racehorse owner deciding they fancy a go round the grand national!
Get real Katie, but if she has the talent, gave up her other ventures and just trained every day then whos to say she couldn't do it?
