ooooooo my welsh mare has been on box rest for nearly 2 months now with on and off abcesses there a pain in the bum
first of all she got an abcess on her hind left then the vet came off and dug channels but had to stop and get x-rays because she thought she had reached the pedel bone if so she would have to of gone in to leahurst but luckly never!
then that abcess went and the day after another one formed on her hind right with the vet dug away again but didnt have no luck with channeling back and finding anything
then the vet told us to get the farrier out to trim her feet back which hopefully will get rid of the abcess because the abcess was on the toe but never then the farrier said she had lami!so we treated her for it then the vet came back out for a check up but said it wasnt lami and we had to do more x-rays to check if the pedel bone had rotated or moved in any form thank heaven they came back positive and she was clear she is on box rest still at the moment for a foot infection which hopefully will clear up soon

the poor little girl doesnt know if shes coming or going !
i am supposed to be going the northern welsh show at landlords in feb but its not looking to good

i really hope she gets better soon

Gosh, poor little mare. I have to say, we have one horse in particular on the yard that is prone to abcess in the hoof, and it can be very painful for them. We very rarely keep them in however. Movement, and wet mud can be particularly useful i helping 'draw' them. They would usually be brought in at night and poulticed, but turned out as normal the next day.
