Really? No ***** Sherlock as they say!

Saw title "Kauto Star makes his dressage debut" and read article after which I sadly realised that, despite our fantastic Olympic results, the BBC journalists are really no more informed about equestrian sport than they were prior to London 2012. More's the pity.

I love how there's another article titled 'Kauto Star too old for Rio 2016'.............OMG, that and he wouldn't be anywhere near talented enough for pure dressage. You gotta love what non-horsey people come up with. I was out with my non-horsey friends last night and one asked why I wasn't training racehorses................ha ha!

Dash it all, so my ex racehorse at the same stage as Kauto won't get to Rio for the dressage either. What are we going to aim at now?! - Where are the ones after that or shall we aim at the bobsleigh at the winters instead?

What a fab idea! We could create an ex-racehorse bobsleigh team :D They'd be ever so fast and Cup of Tea (I think that's her name) on here has a brother in the British team so he could be our trainer.

Kauto could be the driver as he's the star and bagsy be at the back with my head down and eyes closed as my ex-racer is a right woos :p

I don't understand why they can't get someone vaguely knowledgeable about the sport to comment on it! It embarrasses me!

However hopefully this means as my youngster is only 5 he'll be heading for Rio then in 4 years time!

What?? So you're telling me he's not going to be doing any Grand Prix Special tests with Carl Hester either?? D'awh :(

Wonder if Usain Bolt will still be able to star in the royal ballet...?

(Sarcasm is a terrible thing)

but but... the press are so right about who is going to Rio. I mean, how else would I have learnt that Katie Price is a definite..even if she does switch from dressage to show jumping?!

Why can't his connections just let him slide into the background instead of bringing him out as much as they do, to look like a horse we no longer know, Denman when he did come on parade was ready to go for the race and we all enjoyed seeing and watching him, he at least seems to be enjoying his life after racing and his owners placed him well.

Sorry, but I don’t understand why it is OK for Denman to be promoted in H&H via a ‘diary’ and other hunting related articles and yet it seems unacceptable for Kauto to be afforded the same airspace ? Is this purely because he’s doing ‘flat work’ or a dislike of his owner ? Apart from Boxing Day and Newbury he’s not been ‘brought out’ at all. You make it sound like he’s been dragged from one end of the country to the other every weekend !!!!
As far as I can see, both horses seem to be loved, happy and well and promoting quite clearly the versatility of the TB from two very different ends of the spectrum. And while Denman maybe popular in racing circles, Kauto has transcended into the public eye in a way that Frankel did and therefore his ‘appeal’ is perhaps wider reaching so why shouldn’t Clive Smith be proud of his horse and be happy to share his continued enjoyment of the horse with the public. And why shouldn’t Kauto continue to enjoy his public appearances as well, even if they are on a lesser scale than previous. Neither his owner or anyone else connected with the horse has said he’ll be progressing up the dressage ranks with the aim of him competing at National or International level, simply that they’d see how he got on and take it step by step. The only people mentioning Rio are the ill-informed press.
I thought he looked really well at Newbury and was very impressed with his behaviour. He WAS a wonderful racehorse, now I hope he enjoys just being a wonderful horse.

He's fit, well cared for and obviously treasured. I really don't see why it's degrading or wrong for him to be doing something different, better that than mooching around bored in a field watching other horses doing things. He's not going to be over worked, and I thought he looked really well and happy, and he's unlikely to come to any harm. It's great that Denman is out hunting and galloping about, that's risky but it's up to his owners. Imagine the furore if Kauto succumbed to an injury - Clive Smith would be crucified, at least with dressage he's getting good exercise with reduced risk. A huge number of accidents happen in the field.....
