Kauto Star

The documentary was shown on ATR on the 23rd December, I dont subscribe so was pleased with this snippet.

Im hoping they will let Channel 4 have it or show the whole thing on line.

LC says she's hoping to get him to a few competitions soon and see how he copes. He looked wonderful at Kempton and it was great seeing him canter up the track.

As much as he looks to be enjoying life, I can't help but hope they do pop him over jumps - it is what he has been doing and loving before!
Hope to see him out some time soon.

Of course he looked lovely at Kempton, he was back to where he was bred to be Racing. Owner's bloated ego thinking horse is going to be a super star doing Dressage:D

I agree with you. A strange and curious change of course. Still, he's not my horse so I suppose that it's none of my business. He looked well in the vid, for all that.

Alec.

I really don't understand why so many think it a bizarre choice? Dressage is a sure fire way to keep the horse fit, supple and mentally active. He is still hacking regularly and quite frankly looks a million dollars. He says himself in the video that he chose this career change for him so that he could be kept fit and well rather than turned away or just hacking. I think they're all aware that he's never going to be a world beater but is more than capable of good results at Novice level.

I agree. As much as it would have been great to see him out eventing, can you imagine the uproar if he was to be fatally injured?

Dressage allows him to stay fit, supple and use his brain whilst minimizing the risk of him getting injured. I'm quite surprised how little clued up his owner is on dressage (I mean if he wanted him to go to HOYS he probably should have thought about a showing career instead!) however his comment about most ex racers getting turned out in a nice field for the rest of their life isn't all that accurate either. However I think he's looking wonderful and I'm looking forward to seeing him out and about in the near future.

I will never understand why, when it is universally celebrated as a fantastic thing to see ex racers go onto a new life, people get so up in arms when the owners of a well known horse do the same.
The mind boggles.
He's not a china doll, or a museum exhibit. Why shouldn't he go and do something?

I am no dressage fan but what do those of you who think it is offensive that Kauto should be doing it suggest as an alernative? Perhaps he should be out point to pointing? He looks fab, is clearly happy with his lot and I do think his owner is a numpty but I for one will enjoy seeing Kauto out and about competing. The media saud he was off to Rio, not Clive Smith.

But this horse didn't NEED a new home. He had a safe home for life in a routine he knew. He owed nobody anything - why should his life have had to change because he was unlucky enough to have been owned by a media hungry owner?

Make no mistake, he's there simply as a pawn to keep CS and LC in the public eye.

I too was sad he left PNs care, he would never have been stuck in a field and forgotten about, I was more upset on their behalf how the thing was handled, badly by both parties at the end. But things have moved on and Im glad to see him happy and active and obviously enjoying his new career, the thing that concerns me is the lack of info on Master Minded. You never hear Clive Smith talking about him and if it wasnt for Kauto he would have been his horse of a lifetime, last I heard he was in a field in Somerset.

Isn't he injured tho?

Well right now KS is safe cos he's the only profile that LC has going for her.
