Evening guys,

Done enough horse insurance quotes tonight to last me a lifetime!

Cheapest i've found so far is KBIS @ £26 a month. Any horror stories on here?

I've done pet plan equine, NFU mutual, E+L & some no name google searches too so far.

Any other no brainer insurance companies i should get quotes off before going with KBIS?

Also chose the vet fees scale C, but the options here confused me a bit!

I have my youngster insured with KBIS.
I'd check that all info you have put in is correct as i have my youngster (2yrs 8mths) insured with them and it costs me £56 a month!!

I only pay £25 a month to NFU, that is for everything except LOU (as that is a complete waste of money unless your horse is worth £20k+). My friend pays double that, both our horses are insured at a value of £2k.

Had one eventer in recent times insured with KBIS; I would say that they were very hot on their exclusion clauses - if you have a problem on one leg, they'll slap the exclusion on that and the diagonal pair. If you have an issue with one tendon/ligament they'll exclude all of them on that leg etc etc. Maybe that's the norm nowadays, I dunno, but it certainly wasn't when I had several insured (many years ago) with Bloodstock & General in Newmarket. They were fab! Sadly, they don't do anything other than bloodstock nowadays.

I've got my 2 insured with KBIS for £62/month for both (no lou, vet fees only). Seem okay so far and been good with the claim thats running at present :)

Massive thumbs up for AIMS part of SEIB. You wont find them on the internet but they have ads in H&H every week. Very cost effective premiums and pay out very quickly to the vet :) lovely horsey people answer the phone too. My OH is moving his to them on renewal as NFU have been complete pants this year- 4 months to pay a claim for a lacerated hock needing stitching and antibiotics

All i would say is if it is a insurance brockers check who the policy is actualy with i got a quote from one once and the policy it's self was actualy with a insurance firm well not known for paying up !

KBIS are great. Pay out on time. Nice staff. I do not think there will be a catch just check your excess and your vet bill limit as they do variable ones. I pay about £28 a month for my youngster I think (no paper work handy).

I have been with KBIS for a number of years. They have always been good. Staff actually seem to be able to distinquish the pointy end from the blunt end of a horse which always helps.

Actual wording on my policy with KBIS which may need consideration

The insured horse must be wormed regularly, vaccinated against tetanus.
I thought there was a bit about must have an annual dental check but can't find it on new policy.

Exclusions under veterinary fees
Alternative treatment, remedial farriery or Hospitalisation costs unless extended on the certificate.
Husbandry fees, livery fees and transportation costs.

NFU Do cover hospitalisation fees and transport costs...(friend has recently claimed for both from NFU)

For personal cover there is a 20% reduction in payout if suitable British Standard approved headgear is not used.

And a bit that made me chuckle.....under excusions applicable to personal accident claims...]

bla bla bla......any person who is in the state of insanity :)

I think thats all of us who ride in someway :D lol!

I have hospitalisation on my KBIS policy - up to £250, so it may depend on which option you go for?

took out the policy. £29 a month as went for VET option E. £3000 cover @ 100% payout (other was 75% payout) and £125 excess.

thanks for great feedback.

KBIS have been great so far for me. Yes, they do have a lot of exclusions: - fortunately the two horses I have claimed for found other things to need vets for! They paid up promptly without any problems
