I am sure I have seen on here that you can look up a dog's name on the KC website and see it's test results. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
Thank you.

Can someone explain to me why it is that despite our well established but new-fangled health testing systems, we have a worsening reaction to breeding?

Alec.

Because people aren't actually breeding using it... They ignore moderately high scores and don't actually take those dogs out of breeding circulation and you can't test for everything..

Well waste of time or not it is all about maximising the chances of a long lived healthy pup, to my eyes it is not worth even considering one without decent results.
Thank you LL. :-)

Well the bitch I have found has good results, as does the dog. Now need to see if she produces enough black bitches!

Good news :) always gone for low scoring lines and so far have never had a dog with HD or ED, for me it's a no brainer.
I've known of dogs who worked well despite high scores, but why would you want to make them do it. And they were always finished by a relatively young age.

Our older lab had fissures in her growth plates at 6 months old, but I really do think that was our fault for letting her do too much, I think it is quite different to HD. I know low scoring parents doesn't guarantee success but you would feel a bloody fool if you bought one with no test results and had to have it PTS at a year old. We wouldn't keep a dog that couldn't work, although they are pets as well. I don't mean when they get older and need retirement! That is OK. :-)

I am a bit narked as the breeder is selling bitches for £750 and dogs for £600, we will not breed from her anyway so are paying £150 for a useless piece of extra equipment. We shall see.

Its not just that more people want Bitches all my working Labs have been bitches as they are better picking up dogs by a long way. They have more drive and work harder. As the saying goes bitches are only a problem twice a year ,dogs are a constant problem . I very rarely buy Pedigrees now as it only makes sense if you are trialling them.
Just out of interest who was your Lab with growth plate problems by as a few years back there was a dog over your way that kept Cambs Vet school very busy sorting 6 month olds with bad joints.

Popsdosh, my OH agrees with you, he just said market forces, which I know is true. We have ours spayed anyway.
A friend of mine has just had a litter out of her springer x lab bitch, by a nice working lab. I like both parents and they are great workers, but no health tests and she wants £900 for a bitch pup and £750 for a dog. At least with pedigrees you hope a bit of thought has gone into the result.
Will pm you sires name.

Seems to be the trend with dogs nowadays. 'Mongrels' sell for more than the Pedigrees its hardly fathomable . Dont get me started. Hope you got my reply!

It may well be market forces in some situations, although I personally think it is more to do with the fact that bitches by some (usually unreputable!) breeders are considered more "valuable" as money can be made from breeding and selling pups.

Give me a dog over a bitch any day :D

Ditto on the give me a dog comments - I only run dogs now, last bitch here is 16 and there won't be anymore after her! As a bonus though everyone seems to want bitches so I usually get first pick of the dogs in well bred litters so I can't complain :D
