Help !!!

My Welsh Section A naughty gelding will not keep his grazing muzzle on. (can't think why he doesn't want it on!!!!) I've bought him a decent one too and all the straps are done up beautfully - I've even tried putting his headcollar on over the top of it .. but this morning .. hey presto !! it is off again !

Besides trying to superglue it onto his head does anyone have any tried and tested ideas?

Plait the mane over the headpiece. This is the best tip I've ever got from this forum and it works a treat. My Houdini pony hasn't managed to remove his GM since I've been doing this.

our old pony used to escape from his too, until i attached it to a head collar:D I cut the headpiece off the muzzle with enough length in the cut bits to attach them to the rings on the noseband of the head collar, hard work stitching it even on my machine but he never got the thing off after that:D

Thanks Sue I'll try that :) sounds like a plan LOL .....
if that doesn't work I'll attach it to the headcollar ...I even put the heaccollar on over the top of it last night and this morning it was all off and gone!!! mmmmmmmm.....

Endro rider ... I've got a fabric muzzle that is identical to the friendly muzzle - it has so many straps on it I'm shocked it's come off at all !! Did you mean attach a strap down the face to the noseband?

Yes Aliya thank you for that little treasure :) we did have a school .... until the sweet liddle welshie section A trashed the fencing to get to the greener grass on the other side .. but rest assured it will be fixed this evening and we will have a school again once more :) :) ... but welshie pony will not be turned out in it anymore (actually I might try just one more time if I cant' keep that bloody muzzle on)

Oh I like the idea with plaiting the mane over it! I will see if my Welshie was naughty too last night (first night out with muzzle) and if so might try this too.

How I love this forum, lol

Please be careful about how secure you make this.....
I understand the frustrations of ponies getting them off. My Shetland removes his periodically, but thankfully not all the time.
However they should be able to snap off in case of catching on fencing etc.
I've heard of a broken neck, and a pony who got hooked on the trough and drowned.
I use a Dinky Rugs muzzle (tackandturnout.co.uk)

Have you seen how he takes it off? Is he in the field with anyone else?
My boy kept having his taken off by a youngster, it took me week to figure out how he was doing it lol (he didn't put up too much of a fight)

No I haven't, I'm going to keep an eye on him on Saturday out there and Sunday - he's out with 2 Arabs and another Welshie ... mmmmm he's been a pain all round. The vet says he needs to lose weight so I put him in the school, he broken through that twice into the field and the grass, so now we are trying the muzzle mmmm! I knew when I bought it it wouldn't stay on long !!!! grrrrr

This, sound's like he's having a little help from his friends ;) We regularly see some of the lads at ours 'kindly' removing GM, fly masks, head collars with fly fringes, tail flaps of rugs, whole rugs. You name it, they'll find a mate to remove it ;)

Luckily mine has never got his GM off, but he has got all of the above off. I think he see's the GM as a challenge. How much *can* I stuff in my fat face through this!? :p

The only one that stays on mine is the 'dinky rugs' muzzle! When he does manage to get it off it with a bit of assistance from one of the others, in particular a young chap who thinks taking fly fringes, muzzles...rugs!!! off is great fun!

we paint the outside of the muzzle in the soloution you put on kids who are nail biters nails...bitter tasting stuff! that deters him for a while! we just put it on every now and again to remind him that they dont taste good!
