I have lost the third in six months. Last time I went to the saddler and asked him to make me one and he said it would be cheaper to buy a new flash strap for £9.99. So I did. But I have lost the wretched keeper again! I hate the ends tucked in or flapping loose so it looks like I have to buy a new flash strap, again, just for the teeny tiny keeper. Surely there must be another way? Ideas anyone?

I have used a platting band as I am too cheap to splash out

Plaiting band, also. Disposable

If you've never done it, you fasten the flash up, then put the band round the flash strap - then through itself, creating a loop, through which you put the flappy bit.

Plaiting band!

Also, I put my flash strap on so I can't loose the keeper (quite possibly the 'wrong' way) - with it between the buckle and the cavesson loop - the cavesson loop is fairly tight so the flash strap doesn't fall out.

Thank you. So options are 1) get someone who doesn't have a grey to let me have a plaiting band or 2) go to a different tack shop and ask for a runner not a keeper!

My saddler makes runners for 50p each!! (or a complete english leather flash strap for £5)

I also use plaiting bands.

If you do the strap back up straight away (before even removing the bridle from the horse) you shouldn't lose the runner in the first place though.

Obviously, I don't do that, otherwise I wouldn't be using plaiting bands.......
