So I've just been offered my part loan horse on full loan, and my Dad wants to know the costs.

Stabling is £20 per week.
Hay is £4 per week.
Straw is £4.60 a bale and he uses two a week.
He's barefoot and a trim is £10/15.
And need to look into insurance and wormer.

Is there anything I've forgotten? And how much do you pay for insurance and wormer??

Thank you all :DD

I was thinking about putting a £10 a week into a pot for replacements and repairs:)

with vets fees it depends on the severity of the injury, wether its less than the excess on your policy. the excess on mine is about £350 and also with some companies they dont cover certain treatments and ailments so i would check your policy with a fine tooth comb.

nope, he's not on feed. And I've got a chunk in my bank account I can use for the insurance excess.

It's cheap because the yard owner makes his own hay and we buy a big bale and share it between four of us:)

any vitamin supplements ?

what you pay for insurance depnds on company, age of horse and what you want to do with it ( eg you might pay more taking part in some disciplines )as well as any past illnesses or injuries ( sometimes exclusions apply)

I'd tell your Dad 180- 200 a month, any excess can go 'in the pot' as it were.

I have no idea of the cost of wormer in the UK, sorry, I buy in bulk (like 100 a time) from Congress once a year and pay $2 a syringe.

my wormer (equest) costs £11.00 for one syringe :)

You should also budget for the "back lady" and the yearly vaccs :) Ten pound a week for bits and bobs is a good idea because there's always always something you're going to need!! ;-)

And then there's the "treat" allowance!! :)
