So we're shopping for a pony around 125cm, the stables that we keep our horses in have sliding doors and I'm a livery so can't ask too much of the management. What do people do so their smaller ponies can see what's going on? I don't want the poor thing living in a box when they come inside!

Another option that I'm debating is the "open stable " which is a big run in with access to a big dry lot with ad lib hay. This is populated by big European warmbloods and I'm not sure how such a small pony will hold their own in there. Arg!

Having seen our new sect A, scoot under double strand electric fencing, I'd be wary of putting anything across an open doorway that he may "duck under". Pickles is too small to see over our doors so he stands at the back of the box, so at least he can see people coming and going, he also more than holds his own with my full up 16.2. I'd be more concerned about managing his intake of grass really.

We use these in our stables sometimes (admittedly with horses rather than ponies), but if you moved it the appropriate height it could work?

Re holding their own in a barn....

My 14h mare would try and beat up some of the others. My 13.1h is the typical grumpy alpha mare. My 14.3h boy however would probably have a total meltdown if someone looked at him the wrong way. He lives with the two girls and is so hen pecked!

We put a small gate inside the main door for our ponies, but as its a livery yard they might not be happy with any alterations, the stable guards are strong and might be the solution. x

I was thinking about a guard but was a bit concerned about slipping under, I guess at the right height it would be ok... we have barn workers through the day so it could be open while they are there and closed when they are off property. I have a feeling we'll need to run a third line of electric fencing for a pony too. The smallest "pony" we have is around 146cm.

A yard that we were at had sliding doors with grills that were too high for our welsh B to look out of until one day we saw him looking over. There was a step down into his stable and he took to putting his front feet on the step and then he could see out. Is there any way you could build him a step.

What a lady has done at our yard which works well for her Shetlands, is buy a loop sheep hurdle, it fits in our door ways perfect and secured on tie rings on the wall and clips. It's really nice for the Shetlands to see out and watch.
