i know not a great idea but my new horse, a lovely natured spanish stallion, seems to have formed a bond with an older horse. He is currently stabled until I get my electric fence. I plan to move him to a large paddock where he will be turned out most of the day and stabled during the evening. Although they have not yet been turned out together, my stallion always calls for his friend when I take him from the stable to ride him. When the other horse goes into its stable and is out of vision, again he calls him in a very sweet way. Just wanted to see what your experiences are....

Have kept a 'boy band' together over winter for several years in the past :) Weanlings went in with dad, along with a couple of geldings and possibly a 2 or 3yr old colt I was running on.
As long as the girls were well away, then it was never a problem, but we were armed with brooms & gate guards-people etc just in case during introductions & when they were eventually all put together. Its a case of knowing your horse/pony very well.

However, in your position, just take care that you dont get a separation issue on the cards if you did put them together.

My stallion was always kept with geldings his whole life. When we first moved to the UK I struggled to find a yard that would let me do this, but thankfully met a woman with a gelding who was willing to introduce them in her field. They were best mates for a long time ... and that's actually how I started my own yard teehee ... in the end the group frequently had visiting colts as well. We never had a problem, but importantly my boy had NEVER been kept alone from birth.

A friend of mine has her 2 stallions turned out 24/7 together, and I know of a few stallions with gelding field mates. As long as there are no mares to fight over, then it shouldn't be a problem :)

Just be careful and be prepared so open and shut gates quickly if there is trouble. I find riding the quad makes me faster than most horses and certainly faster than being on foot!

I currently have one 3yo gelding, two 2yo colts and a yearling colt in with my stallion and they all get along fine. They are all Higlands. But at one stage I removed the yearling for some training, then tried to put him back. First the stallion tried to kill him (I'm serious), then when I put him in with the 2yo's, they pretty much did the same. But they were all put back together and live quite happily after a re-introduction over the fence. As above, keep the mares well out of the way.

I've a photo somewhere of the gelding, a colt, and the stallion all feeding out of the same bowl!
