As Pidge is so big, he's in a 7'3" rug and lorry is only 8' wide he travels on a slant in the lorry. However he always manages to get poo over his hindquarters and tail. He wears a long tail guard and travel boots. Any ideas for what I can use to keep him clean? I have to wet wipe him off when we get off the lorry but it then leaves him with a crinkly bum

There is a kind of cover thing available that sits over tail and covers part of hind quarters - under £10 I think My friend has one for her horse (white bum, black partitions!) I will ask her tonight - unless someone knows the name of the product! Think she got it by mail order. Works a treat.

Despite the fact my old lorry had loads of space my mare used to travel with her bum against the wall resulting in lovely green poo stains all over her quarters ( she is grey so even worse ) i invested in a quarter guard ( bought from rideaway i think) which virtually eliminated the problem, saved a lot of time scrubbing when i arrived at shows!!

To keep the tail clean I always do a single plait down to the end of the tail then when I bandage it I fold the bottom up and bandage that in too.

Cheers both that looks like it will do the job

will it stay put with just a tail guard though as when its hot I travel Pidge without a rug?

I have always travelled Amy with a stocking over her tail - tied at the bottom. And always carry a sponge and water to clean off her quarters if necessary.

so once washed off how do I stop him going crinkly? hard to describe but not a good look if I want to do some showing classes with him.
