Keeping horse still in a trailer

Has anyone got any tips on keeping a horse still and calm in a trailer when you have finished competing? My boy travels well and is normally ok when we arrive. After competing he will not stand still in trailer whilst I get coffee!! He is ok if I am there but if I go, and spy on him from a distance he ports the floor. Do I ignore him??

Stand out of just out of sight and everytime he paws the floor spray him with water from a water pistol, ours stopped fairly quickly.
