I live and work in London and keep my horse near Epping but was wondering if money was no object and you could move house very easily where would be the best place accessible from in or around London to stable your horse?

Thinking of moving and the city is my oyster so to speak but the horse having a good bedroom is my priority so looking for other people's opinions!

Wiltshire is a good commute from London and if you like off-road riding its fab here. Miles of off-road riding on the Downes which is right by my yard. The views are stunning up there.

I'd go with Hertforshire/Essex. There are loads of livery yards around Potters Bar and Royston and a straight train into Kings Cross. I used to commute from Cambridge and it was fine - 50 minutes on the train and I always had a seat. The Essex trains go to Liverpool Street - you can also commute from Cambridge to Liverpool Street. The train goes through some nice enough horsey country round Audley End and Elsenham as well. I think livery costs are also quite reasonable unlike the commuter belt in Surrey!

Beds Bucks borders is great, train from Milton Keynes to Euston or Thames Link to St Pancras is accessable (bout 35 mins from both) where I am near Woburn we have great hacking and some brilliant venues MKEC, Keysoe, Addington, Patchetts etc all less than an hour away. there are some good yards around and house prices although expensive are not as bad as some areas.

Thanks all!! But, see I think all those places sound amazing but my OH will only live within Greater London due to working ridiculous hours so was more thinking of where you could live in London and commute out to the yard rather than the other way around... do you know any great yards easily accessible from a property in London?

If you have shed loads of money, your horse can live with me in the Yorkshire Dales and you can land your helicopter in the fold yard!

What about around the Keston area of Kent. A friend of mine used to live in Battersea and have her horse in Keston. Lots of yards, seemed to be lots going on and relatively easy to get to from central London.

Move to Mill Hill/Totteridge in North London and keep your horse locally at Mote End Farm which has excellent facilities and 250 acres of hacking. Mill Hill Broadway Main Line Station and Mill Hill East Undeground Station are Close by as is Totteridge Undeground Station on the Northern Line. This is about the best and closest yard to Cenral London. (You can even hack to Hampstead Heath and Hyde Park)!

I was going to say Mill hill to as I used to keep my horse at Frith Manor. What about Chessington area? Loads of yards round there.

I used to live and keep my horse in Bromley/Chislehurst. Train journey into Cannon Street was 25 mins! Hacking was great as well. Livery not too expensive either.

Hi i'm crap with places in London but i'm inside the M25 in Herts. There are loads of yards round this way, Rickmansworth/Harefield/Watford/Choleywood area. House prices do seem steep to me but then i'm from up north so I think everything is expensive down here

I am at LEC in North London and can walk to the yard from my house in 20 minutes and its only 50 on the tube to work. I am not rich in the slightest - flat is rented and pony on DIY.

I am in Wanstead - live on Wanstead Flats, which I personally think is a very nice area of London and can be in Epping in 25 mins or less if traffice is good with the car.

Hence I live in Wanstead, work in Holborn and stable at Epping Green - best of all worlds. That said, long term I plan to escape London and move further out and OH and I are not city people by nature.

I'm near Richmond...places like Chessington, Claygate, Bookham, Kingston, Richmond are all pretty easy and not too far from London.
