I have a double bridle that I ride in maybe once every four to eight weeks. Since it spends the majority of the time hanging in the tack room, it gets covered in mould quite quickly. Is there any magic stuff I could put on it which might prevent mould, or will I just have to suck it and clean the thing more often, even though I rarely use it?

Not sure of any magic lotions i'm afraid.

Mould is caused by damp... so really I'd say find somewhere drier to store it. I too have a bridle which gets used only a handful of times a year and if I were to keep it in our yard tack room it would also mould. Have you thought of keeping it at home? I have a couple of plastic boxes which I keep rarely used bits of tack in in my shed.

My saddler told me that the only leather that doesn't get mould is bone dry! The mould feeds on the oils in the leather from saddle soap, conditioner etc. It might help if you could keep it in a drier atmosphere than the tack room.

Keep it at home I would say.

Or oil and store in cotton pillowcase... Still needs to be a dry atmosphere though...
