A conversation yesterday with another HHO'er made me wonder, how does everyone water their outdoor arena during dry periods?
I know you can invest in a proper irrigation system, but my set up won't be suitable for that as I have no electric.
So,what does everyone do?

My original fine sand surface was great in winter, but deep in summer. I only had a hose to water, and although I could damp a circle with 3 sprinklers, I tended to just ride on the field or hire.

Since then I topped up with a small amount of black ash, and a couple of inches of rubber. It is now perfect winter or summer, needs no watering, and has had no maintenance for 4 years other than flattening when we have used it for winter turnout and Jay has dug holes!

The only disadvantage was the ash and rubber was second hand and came with stones, which we are forever picking up.

Thanks red 1. I can't use rubber, planning won't allow it. But, good to hear that yours has been improved.

Work had a Fibresand surface. Looked like sand, the fibre was more or less sand colour. That was also amazingly robust, and not deep in summer despite not being watered. I thin it came from Mansfield Sand.
