I am going out on Thurs BD and have to leave the yard about 5am so am planning to plait the night before. Can anyone suggest any good tips on how to keep them tidy for the next day? I am going to sew them in nice and tight but any other tips would be great.

Also Louis' mane has got quite thick and I am struggling to get the plaits very tight to his neck so any tips on this would be great too.

Thanks

Got a spare pair of tights? Cut a leg off and then cut right down to the foot. Stretch over each plait and secure with a plaiting band. I also spray my plaits with gel spray beforehand. Good luck!

baby oil - i always plait nite before and i would if time pull mane as much as poss then damp hair and plait or should i say weld in. Then once finish wipe over with baby oil, so if gg roll that dirt/straw or shaving don't stick, but best tip to tight plait is thin mane.
Good luck for petplan need to photos and report pl

Quic Braid makes the mane really sticky and much easier to get all the wispy bits in and get the plaits nice and tight. But it should only take half an hour to plait so can't you do it the morning of the event? More comfortable for the horse not having them in overnight and they will look better as well!

I second the lycra hoods. Plaits all lie in a neat little row in the morning - no sticking up and all out of sync which is how they look after plaiting. Plaiting not my strong point as you can tell!

Hoods definitely!!! The only way to keep plaits neat, tidy and coat smooth. I use one all the time - not just for plaits, saves hours. Try Snuggy, they're fab!
