Keeping Stanley quiet post op!

Stanley is not the man he was, so to speak. I can't recommend the inflatable collar we are using enough, on a smallish dog it works really well, he's very comfortable in it, can't reach the wound and three days post op he's healing well and full of beans. But, how the hell do you keep them quiet? Short of shutting him in his crate, which I really don't want to do, he's as lively as ever. I'm very pleased he's feeling well and obviously not sore but he's missing his walks off lead and our energetic games. Ideas! I am doing training with him but I can't do that all day.

Big marrow bone to chew? Stuffed frozen kong? Peanut butter in a hollow bone?

I had a similar situation with Millie lurcher when she was spayed - she is a real livewire, full of beans, happiness and explosions of joy I must admit I quite quickly started lead walking her for all of our sanity, she also had her Kong toy to play with which she loves - I just tried to keep her from hurling herself around the house and garden after it like she usually does!

I'm not suggesting that anyone should ignore the vets advice, but for me there is a fine balance (depending on the dog) between complying and remaining sane

my vet said short lead walks were ok but no jumping on the sofa etc or bouncing around playing. with a very lively terrier it was difficult but i bought some buffalo ears and kept him supplied with them if he seemed to be about to explode. agree its not easy but mine healed up perfectly even though he probably did a bit more than the vet said, i did my best!!!!!
