Keeping warm in winter? (humans)

What do you all wear to keep warm in winter whilst at the yard or riding. Hate being cold and am going to treat myself to some new stuff at YHL so any good makes of extra warm clothing pls xx
 
Not pretty but warm, waterproof and practical, I don't have to be posh on my yard, no-one to impress.:) The horses wouldn't care if I was dressed in a garbage sack as long as I came bearing food :D Columbia, HH, North Face and Musto are good makes, most horse stuff though, I find, just doesn't come up to scratch. The only thing I have are Rambo chaps that are 10 years old and still going strong.

Or ski pants, usually warm and very easy to wash and dry overnight. Plus whatever jacket/s I have to hand, I have a vast choice. Always hat, neck warmer and gloves too. Workboots are proof to -50C

Fortunately the house is on the yard so I never have to stay out long enough to get cold anyhow.:) and there is always a pot of coffee in the workshop too.

Thermals top and bottom. Sheepskin hat with ear flaps ,often a scarf over hat and under chin ,kids are embarrassed to be seen with me and my friend is very rude about my style ,but am never cold ! Also always ride in suede chaps which are fab.
 
Heatgen thermals from M&S. Very silky and like 2nd skin, fab. Convinced OH to buy some also. Can thoroughly recommend £14 each.

I always wear leather shoes and only one pair of cotton socks. Only don wellies if it is muddy to go catch something in the field.

I will. if it is really cold wear a pair of thick tights under my jods.
In the yard I only ever wear a rugby shirt, sweater and thin body warmer.
Thin gloves unless it is really cold or I am on the ATV! Jacket when riding if it is windy and cold.
 
All of the above really, I think I'll definitely get some Uni Qlo heat tech things as well, love that shop for knitwear as well.

Another tip is to have something warm for breakfast before going to the yard - if you're not in a rush porridge is great as it heats you up from the inside. And I always take a little flask of coffee for when I'm mucking out early in the morning.
 
Undercrackers , thermals, jods, waterproofs, thermal socks and legwarmers. Then vest, tshirt, jumper, fleece,hoody and bodywarmer and gloves. Layers are the way , so after you've mucked out, swept yard you can strip down and still be warm!:)there's always something you can do to warm you up :D dance to your fave tune while waiting for the hose to fill the waterbucket.
 
I have a down coat from Kands End-it's called a long chalet coat-it is soooo warm! As its long,it keeps your bum and legs warm too and mine has a 2way zip,so u can wear it to ride. It has a removable hood. It is extremely warm but very,very light and thin,due to the concentration of down in it & is a reasonable price(especially compared to equestrian & climbing makes). Wish I'd always had it!
 
Lots of layers, and if really cold, my cheap ski trousers from tk maxx. I suffer terribly with reynauds, but bought some battery operated heated gloves last year which took the edge off :-)
 
For my bottom half:
Thermal leggings
Fleece lined jodhs
Ski socks
Thermal over trousers
Thrmal boots

Top half:
Thermal top
Long sleeved top
Fleece
Gilet
Thermal coat


Hands:
Silk lined glove liners
Gloves

Head - either a hat or headband, depending on how cold it is!

And a neck warmer/snood.

I really want a balaclava to wear under my riding hat too.
 
rohan winter bags (trousers!) are very warm easy to wear and wash!! hat and gloves. i also have a long down filled coat from lands end fab in cold but no good in wet.
 
does anyone know where you can get those gloves for sweeping/mucking out etc? they look really good because I find all other gloves too bulky
 
I'm usually fine as long as my head and hands are warm! If I have a fleece headband or hat and gloves on, I'm usually grand :D

I just wear a fleece over a couple of jersey tops and leggings under jods. I always get hot mucking out though, so like layers I can strip off easily!
 
I've got a thing called a "Polopancho" which is basically a fleecy thing, but you can wear it as a neck-muffler, OR a hat, or whatever. Its beautifully warm and cosy and also because the ends of it extend quite a way, it will keep your back & chest area warm without being bulky. An invaluable and very adaptable garment; just right for snuggling into on a cold breezy day.

Thermals (totally un-sexy but who cares) - essential items IME as they provide heat without bulk.

Plus I've got a pair of Mountain Horse thermal (endurance) riding tights which I got last year; hardly took them off last winter - practically lived in them and was very tempted to wear them to bed, they're so cosy and warm! Totally indespensable for the winter. Performance Equestrian do a similar garment.

Also a pair of Neoprene gloves; will keep your hands warm even if you get them wet. You can also get the finger-less ones.
 
Leggings under jods, either trackies or waterproof pants over, t shirt then thick jumper then hoody then either thick coat or wax jacket (or both!), long leather country boots and ski socks. Mmm toasty!

Sounds like me! I hate hats and scarves with a passion and try as I might wearing a hat has me feeling claustabhobic. I'm one of these people that if on the move I'm warm, once I sit down though I get cold.

I have the bedroom window open year round and love to sleep with the air cold.
