Just seen (on Kelsall's website) that from 2010 the course designer is Mark Phillips. Quite suprised by that - although it can only be a good thing I think.
Yep, I course-walked with a friend this year and it looked pretty uninteresting I have to say! I've done the farm ride quite a few times too. It's good that there will be a bit of a shake up.
Its not that bad! Everytime the event ran the course was different with quite a wide variety of fences, I've been to alot worse but hey-ho im sure Mark Phillips wont be a bad thing
the PC Novice Champs were [honestly] pathetic it was roll top roll top roll top roll top roll top roll top box roll top roll top hedge hedge roll top corner corner hay cart roll top water roll top roll top roll top!
and was like a BE80 course!?!
nice venue just a bit pathetic/weak on the XC front.. nice to see mark phillips taking over though
I think it's great that a NW venue attracts the calibre of Mark Phillips.
Having said that, let's not forget that the revered Janet Plant was involved in building old Weetwood Grange xc, + let's please also applaud the fact that Lucinda Green taught there a time or 2, + the happy times many of us had there.
Why has Weetwood closed, when it was the first xc around the Kelsall area?
Is it not open anymore? Last time I went was about 3 years ago. Its probably not as popular as it used to be because of venues like Kelsall and Somerford offering alot more and if I remember rightly Weetwood never really kept up. Its a shame
Weetwood closed because much smaller, + didn't get Olympic funding. Weetwood was a 2-man, often 1-man band, both working full-time elsewhere, while Kelsall + Somerford have funding, + full-time staff, + funding (+ loads more sandy land)
Bit like local shop competing with Tescos!
Weetwood closed for good after a SC PC mother used their school + jumps, without permission, moved all jumps round, cups on floor, poo in school, etc, in owners' absence, + didn't even pay. Mother was called Alison. (DC was informed at the time.)
That's all i know, + i'm very sorry that Weetwood is closed, as they were the first to do xc, + were the innovators.
I welcome the new course designer at Kelsall, as a well-known + respected gentleman, while I am also very respectful of the excellent course designer who has previously been responsible for this course on a longer term basis, + who is a local stalwart.
Our local lad has done nothing wrong, it's just that the Kelsall Hill organisers want an even bigger name. All bests, B x
Oh that is shame, Weetwood was one of the first places I went xc and even after having a nasty fall there I still went (just avoided that particular jump!) It was great for PC stuff.
I know a mother called Alison but I dont think it would be the same one, id hope not anyway!
Im glad to know that it was not said persons fault, he's a friend of ours and taught me so much over the past few years (aswell as making me jump wacking big fences
) im really grateful to him.
I know Kelsall's organisers have changed so changes were to be expected, it will be interesting to see come April next year
Hi again, _Flic_,
I'm trying to say, in my clumsy way, that folk round Kelsall Hill are very, very lucky in having a trainer like Richard on their doorstep.
I'm also trying to say that we should support our local venues, if we possibly can, before we lose other places like Weetwood.
We need to consider insurance costs, which have got SO ridiculous! Which is down to daft claims, while daft claims aren't made to likes of Weetwood, but who were expected to pay ridiculous amounts, as a result of things going on elsewhere.
And if we all want xc places to continue, we need to say something to H+S regarding realism, before we lose all xc training. BS x
