Hi All

Looking for some info on the Kenilworth castle ride. Has anybody done it recently? I have been told we now need a permit to do the ride. Can anyone give some advise.

Do you know if it is a ride that is do-able at this time of year? We are looking to go somewhere in the next few weeks as the hacking is rather limited by us.

If anybody can give any recommendations that would be great! Coventry / Nuneaton / Rugby / Kenilworth areas.

Thanks

Hi,

I've ridden around there but parked down Rouncil Lane near Goodrest farm and done a loop using the bridleways going back to the farm. I've ridden by the castle but it was 5 years ago and I can't remember for the life of me the route! I walked on foot around the castle a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't too bad under foot but they've just had the fireworks display so thousands of people will have trodden down through the car park to the 1st field. It might be worth asking on some of the local facebook groups (solihull and warwickshire riders) to see if anyone there can help?

Hi Pixie, I have a very good book about rides in the local area so if you want to PM me with your email address I can email you the Kenilworth Castle route as I can scan it in and send it over and any other routes applicable in that area. Trouble is this time of year they may be quite overgrown and wet, spring/summer is probably your best time. I will try to remember to pick it up from the yard later and clear some of my old PM's so you can leave me the address. I also have some smashing bridlepath routes over in Lowsonford/Shrewley direction where I am stabled that you can interlink with each other to produce a two to 2.5 hour hack and these are a little drier underfoot and not so overgrown, lovely ford, lovely canter spot and lovely bridlepaths. Its not all off road but its a very quiet area at the weekend with cars (last sunday I hacked out at 9am for over an hour and only had three cars pass me) so long as you are okay with cylists. You may be able to ask some of the local pubs if you could park in their car parks (so long as you have a meal/drink afterwards as an incentive to allow you to park!).

Here is a good link you may be interested in http://www.bridleways.co.uk/routes/counties/pages/warwickshire.asp

This link explains about the Kenilworth annual pass and ride in more detail which is what I think you mean although the book I have doesn't say you have to pay for that hack.

You could also go to Solihull Riding Club and either join to enjoy their boundary ride or find someone who is already a member to take you around (for a small fee to the club). Its three miles.

Hi All

Thank you so much for the above replies.

I have got Brandon Woods on my list. I haven't rode around Brandon Woods since I was about 13 and at the riding school.

Applecart14 - Thank you I will PM and have a look on them links and give you a PM. Even if I don't do them until spring / summer it will be nice to have my list. I just need to try and get out and about a bit more! Thankfully a few of the girls with trailers are on the same page as me.

Thank you :)

are you sure you're not thinking of the disused railway from berkswell to kenilworth? If so, yes you do need a permit. But the one where you park at Ken castle as far as I know you don't need one but haven't done the ride for a while.
