I know nothing about dog breeding or the KC, but thought this might be of interest to people in here as the programme in question caused some debate last month. The KC have lodged a complaint against the BBC regarding the programme 'Pedigree Dogs Exposed:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7620507.stm

Further down it says The Dog's Trust have withdrawn sponsorship from Crufts and The Westminster Dog Show. Oh, and the RSPCA will be conducting a 'scientific review' of pedigree dog breeding, whatever that means.

Ah, glad mine are registered with the IKC......

I am just sad that all this hubbub was created by a TV programme.
The RSPCA and other bodies knew or should have known that some of these problems existed for decades while the responsible breeders tried and failed to make themselves heard.

This whole mess is why I and many others no longer breed or show.

they have known, so have vets-it just took a program on mainstream TV to bring it home to a big audience. about bloody time too.
they could have made it a bit more balanced, some hereditary problems are being bred out of certain breeds but it needed shoving home that the dogs people chose for looks are suffering for those looks, but what they portrayed was true.
