Hello!

I've been watching Crufts today and I noticed the commentator said you can get a KC licence/membership, which will allow you to compete in various events/activities, even if you have a mix breed/unknown breed.
I have a Tamaskan, which are a recognised breed, but are not KC approved (as the founder does not want them to be).

I was just wondering how I would go about doing this? Maybe not for this year, as she is still only a baby! But maybe next year, when we've been to a few local/fun shows and got her out there a bit :)
She is a stunning girl, who I believe would do well in agility and maybe obedience!

Nice pup. The "founder" of the breed probably doesn't want anything to do with the KC for very good reasons. Personally, I'd respect that decision.

Meantime, have a look at "Pedigree Dogs Exposed" on Youtube and perhaps you might agree.

Ah! Thank you Blackcob :) that's the one!

Dry Rot - I have seen that and I completely agree! I can't help but feel sorry for those poor mutants who used to be useful dogs. I can't stand how pugs have become so popular, when they're usually over weight and have countless problems.
That said, the agility and heal work dogs seem to have a better time, which is what I would want to do. Apparently Tamaskans can excel at agility! :D

Yes, I do understand. I am afraid I have a deeply engrained hatred of the KC after what they did and are doing to the working dogs I have been involved with all my life.

It's awful! Apparently the GSD was bad, I haven't seen it but people on facebook have been commenting. I don't know why dogs have to be treated like that, I don't understand why people aren't happy with natural? I know most are bred for a purpose, but for many that purpose has gone clear out of the window!

I watched the footage of the GSD with a sinking heart, and can understand anyone criticising her. I have not seen her in the flesh but have seen quite a lot of video footage of her and she looked a different bitch. Also many people I respect consider her an excellent type of bitch so I am not sure what went wrong. I can't defend her on the Crufts footage, but will not crucify her or my breed either from same footage.
I am not a fan of the KC and think they have done the world of pedigree dogs quite a bit of harm, but they are slowly trying to improve things, although I suspect they will always be more interested in the money from registrations.
Good luck with your pup in agility, having done both breed showing and agility with my dogs I have to confess to preferring the latter. At least its just down to you and the dog not someone elses opinion.

Please dont interpret this as me defending the KC becasue i agree with your sentiment but surely it's just as much the breeders and owners who have shaped the way some of the breeds have gone, it is trend that shapes how a breed develops. I have seen small variations wax and wane with popularity in my own breed, based on what is trendy at the time. Sometimes it's all down to breeders interpreting the standard how they want.

If breeders were not getting prizes they would not breed for show, so it must be the judges who influence the breeders, but but but, there is a temptation to form "cliques" , this is so in many show categories ........ where animals suffer and breeders profit.
I went to a dog show once, never again ........ a breeder left pups to die in a hot car and another commented on the economic loss :(

Oooh! Bonkers2, that's so awful :( those poor little things!
Though, as disgusting as that event and the comment was, I don't think all dogs shows would be like that! I've heard and seen some nasty things at horse shows (including someone saying my horse needed shooting!!!!) but nothing quite as horrific as that. I can see why it would put you off, but hopefully it was a freak thing.

I would urge you to go again as that paints all breeders and handlers in a very bad light and we are most definitely not all like that.
A lot of people (not saying you) comment on how awful dog breeding is and how the breeders are only in it for money and winning and dont care about welfare, when in reality the people saying it dont know jack about what really goes on. The days spent choosing a stud dog that compliments your bitch in nature, confromation and pedigree. The money spent on health tests, x-rays and DNA tests to ensure your dog is free from hereditary issues. The hours and money spent going to shows (which at £25 per entry are not cheap) with your dog, and if you are lucky and win you have to buy your own rosette, when the real reason you go is to see and chat to your friends!
People forget about the breed clubs who work tirelessly to improve the breed, insisting on a strict code of conduct and dismissing any members who dont abide by them, and encourage young enthusiast to get involved.

Yes there is sometimes the odd thing that happens that makes you raise an eyebrow and you're not always going to get on with everyone but the dog showing world is no where near as bad and unethical as everyone makes out. It's a real shame more people dont see the good parts.

I enjoy showing my dogs and will be breeding my first litter in 2018 (yes thats how far ahead I'm planning, and I also want my bitch to mature fully before breeding her). Will I make a profit from it, probably not, am I doing it to ensure the development and future of the breed I love, absolutely. :)
