I took my mini JRT to the vet for an infected foot and she stayed in for investigations under GA. She unfortunately came back with kennel cough. They never normally see other dogs so not vaccinated. She passed the cough onto her sister. She got better after a couple of days but her sister has it bad. I took sister to the vets as she is normally a very small waisted little thing (very whippet shaped - unlike her stocky sister) and she was all bloated up to a completely different shape. She was checked over by the vet. Temperature was fine (still is), heart sounded good. The vet did not seem at all concerned and sent her away with antibiotics and rimadyl. I am not worried about the cough as I know it can persist for weeks sometimes, but the bloating remains. She is eating okay (always was a picky eater but there's been no change). She wags her tail and seems quite bright in herself, but I am worried about this bloating. Does anyone have any similar experience with kennel cough causing this? Thanks

Kennel cough is usually caused by the Bordatella bacteria & is a respiratory tract infection, as far as I'm aware it can't & doesn't cause the bloating symptoms you describe.

Give her a couple of days & if she doesn't improve then go back to your vet with your concerns.

Thanks. I certainly can't find anything online about it. She is, however alittle constipated, so maybe that's it.

Sadly, she was PTS today. Fluid around her heart and in her abdomen. Nothing could be done. She went down hill very fast and suddenly.

Sorry to hear that Wagtail :(
My dog had a bloated tummy/constipation early 2016 and because of his breed and prior experience of an obstruction I rushed him to OOH vet...turned out to be gas from a nasty bug...must have been a shock to lose her so suddenly.

Yes, it was aa total shock. Her sister was probably just coughing because of the tube they use in the GA and therefore we assumed it was kennel cough as the little one I lost started coughing shortly afterwards. The first vet put my mind at rest and so I was probably delayed in taking her back. But I knew it wasn't right. Poor little thing. She was so tiny for a JRT only teacup sized. The most likely cause was a tumour.

Thanks everyone. It's awful. I keep thinking I hear her. My only consolation is that it happened whilst I was here. I fly out to Dubai on Wednesday. At least I was able to be there for her.
