Kennel Cough?

Our old (15 years) dog has been coughing and bringing up phlegm for a few days , it is getting progressively better but seems to be worse after eating or drinking. He is quite quiet but he is still waiting for his dinner, barking at people at the door etc.
After looking up the symptoms and watching vids on You Tube it does sound like Kennel Cough but we have a young collie who has shown no signs at all. I'm a bit worried we should be isolating him, or should we just get him to the vet for antibiotics?

He hasn't been in any kennels or with any other dogs lately but he does pick up random things off the beach etc which could have had doggie saliva on which is the only way I can think he could've caught it if he has...

is he is getting better than i doubt the vet would give antib's as KC can often be viral and not bacterial, there are 2 types. Its too late to isolate from your other dog but you shoul refrain from taking him to pubic places, KC rules for comps are 21 days after coughing has stopped, that would include your other dog even if he has no symptoms he's been exposed to it. Benelyn chesty for kids is good to offer him some relief, or take him in the bathroom when you shower to inhale the steam.

I was thinking about this last night when I was in the shower - I know it makes me feel better. He is due for a shower as he is filthy (low to the ground dog), should I give him one while he is like this or wait until he's better?
Also, should I refrain from taking him for a 'long' walk? (30 mins with me walking slow through muddy footpaths)
 
As he's an older dog I'd be concerned it was something other than kennel cough and be taking him to the vets as a precaution. Inform the vet it might be kennel cough and they'll no doubt come out and check the dog over in your car.
