One of the regular dogs at the yard has kennel cough. The owner described the symptoms and it looks like an elderly lab ( another regular) has it too. Both dogs are now under vet supervision. I have gone onto the net but can't find answers to these questions so thought I would ask here

1. It says humans can carry this. What precautions can the owners take coming back to the yard? Also going for supper at one of the owners houses...or should I not as her dog has KC.?
2. So can it be passed human to human to dog?
3.Yard are closed down entry for all other dogs as obviously wants to keep her own dog clear. Any idea how long would be a good quarantine period? I have seen anything from 5 days to 1 month?
4. How long for symptoms to show? Dog was at the yard on Saturday. None of mine are coughing at all.

Will be calling my vet tomorrow to check as well.

Fingers crossed yours will be fine, however a couple of years ago someone brought their dog up the yard with KC and within 14days I think all the dogs up there had it. The old/weak dogs were quite ill, mine coughed a bit, but never looked ill or stopped eating.

It is highly contagious and my understanding is it can stay live on moist surfaces for a fair while.

I would think hands and shoes would be the most likely way to carry home, but would think the risk is small.

Oh great. I love having my dogs at the yard and hack out with youngest one as well, plus seeing all their doggy friends so leaving them behind won't go down well. Thanks for the update though..

Incubation is 4 to 11, rarely 14 days.

Dogs can be contagious for up to a month after ceasing to cough.

There are several forms and some can be carried on clothing etc.
