Some of you might remember my thread about looking for a rehome Basset. Anyway little Lola came home with my parents on Monday after I found her through a friend of a friend and is fab. Only thing is that she was in kennels with a load of Bassets in between the prior owner (who gave her up) and the breeder (who had her back to rehome) giving her to us. She has been fine generally but is adapting again to being a house dog and as such has had an accident every morning so far. Dad takes her out about 11pm for a walk and she generally wakes up about 6am so is this something that she just needs to readjust to? Mum says she drinks more than our previous Bassets in general. Any tips? She will be getting a vet check soon although the breeder had vet checked her for teeth and a small cyst that was removed while she looked for a new home so should be fine as seems in good health.

Also on another note she hasn't been kept up with vaccinations and breeder was very against restarting these. She is 5. Will this make a difference for insurance purposes and what would you all recommend insurance-wise in general? Thanks in advance!

Just keep doing what you're doing, it will come eventually.

Having re-homed dogs that were previously in kennels, I have found it may take some time. Make nothing off it, treat her like a puppy and use a verbal command.

I would check with different insurers tbh, I expect it could affect a claim if it were related to her not being vaccinated.

It's lovely you are so pleased with her, she has obviously landed on her feet.

Thanks; she is a great little dog and Dad is loving having her after so long without another. As suspected my Mum who always kicks up a fuss about new pets has fallen in love also!
