I'm finally having my first proper holiday for 2 years in September (yay

) but as I'm this year going with my family & I can't find anyone else who will have him as they have small dogs he would probably just eat them, I will have to put him in kennels for a week

I'm a little anxious as it will be his first time in kennels & of course he is my precious

He needs alot of exercise and am worried about him not getting enough (although the kennels are nice and have a little outside bit for them) and also he barks alot & am worried about him barking the whole time. I know i'm probably being over-protective & silly but will he hate me forever for subjecting him to it?!! I have also heard alot of horror stories about dogs escaping from kennels & I don't want to be stressed & feel bad all week

He's a 2 year old Lab.

No, honestly he won't hate you forever - you will be surprised how easily he might settle

If he does bark all the time the kennnels will be used to it

And don't worry about him escaping - I always warn the kennels 'look they are greyhounds, take your eyes off them and they disapear'

- I have never had a problem

Got my dog back from kennels last week. He had lost weight, but that is expected, as mine always do. He was very quiet for two days then was back to his bouncy self, again this is totally normal as he is trying to work out his place in my "pack." Kennels said he was a lovely boy, walked nicely to heel, didn't fret, didn't bark much.

Go to the kennels and get a feel for them, if in any doubt don't use them. There are plenty about.

I used to run a kennels, and in my experience labs always took to it well - they seemed to thrive on the routine. It can never be the same for the dog as being at home with you, but it is not always a negative experience for them. I used to recommend that the dog was left for one night first of all, so that they knew the owner was coming back for them. I hope you find somewhere that suits you and your dog so you can both enjoy your holidays! Good luck.
