Its not been publised in our local magazines etc. Some guys were giving out adverts at Ashford Market but thats the only advertising I have seen. Just would have thought a auction would have had more advertising. I find that a little bit suspicious. I found out through the leaflet and some of the guys (gypsys) in the local pub nr me. Just find it a bit odd why a horse fair is not well advertised thats all.

Given the story on the H&H email newsletter, I would (rightly or wrongly) be dubious about buying something there. Also, I was at Ashford and I didn't see any flyers.

This should be posted on lost and stolen horses. If I'd had a horse stolen recently then I would be having a good look round there. They are not well publicised for a reason. Have a guess what that reason is?

I haven't been to this one myself but they hold one in chelmsford on the last weekend of august every year and this is never advertised. Its normally word of mouth with these things. I was looking for a traditional last summer and thought it was worth having a look at this fair. Anyway I had a good look round and there were plenty of lovely horses there and I would say they were all pretty well cared for. I did find that a few only wanted sell amoungt themselves, so the prices were £10-30k! but as I was leaving feeling rather disappointed my mum noticed a youngester tied to a lorry. We had a look he was a lot younger than I wanted (18months) but my mum was very keen on me taking him home.

Anyway I went for it and he is the best horse i've ever had and hes such a pretty boy with a fab charactor and a complete bargain. I would definately look at an auction/horsefair if I ever wanted another.

Without doubt you do have to be careful but I would say that you have a good chance at finding something nice that hasn't been ruined!:)

at 18 months old the ones near us were being hammered down the dual carriageway harnessed in a sulky and beaten if they broke into canter......

Mine definately hadn't done anything like that. Not worth going into detail but I didn't buy him there and then turns out she was a normal person, I went to see him at her house. she had bred him but was giving it all up. he hadn't done anything, she didn't know how! Just trying to tell my experience that these things aren't always terrible and that they aren't always gypsy selling.

It was a strange day. I didnt see any money change hands, which is a public affair with gypsys. A lot didnt go through the auction and most of the horses were minature traditionals. I think it was more of a show off of stallions and what stock people have about. Never asked any prices but all the horses there were well groomed and turned out.
