Ok this is now fourth hand but I do know the YO in question. The yard is not far from Gravesend in Kent.

Two horses disappeared from their field end of last week. The owners contacted various different police stations but no word of them being seen. Somehow the owners were given a contact number for Maidstone police, they spoke to a sergeant there who said they hadn’t had any horses reported stolen.

The police then phoned back to say 2 horses had just been reported to them. Now this is where it gets weird the *police* insisted that there would be a 700 quid collection fee which must be paid cash only, they couldn’t release the horses otherwise as one of the horses had been involved in an incident.

The owners were met somewhere or another to pick up the horses, it all sounded very suspicious. Owners didn’t make too much of a fuss as they were so pleased to get their horses back.

The view is that possibly the horses were chased out of their field so they jumped onto the road where they could then be legally taken away. Sounds like some sort of a scam to me.

Don’t want to start major panics but just be aware. Apparently some local gypsies said that the same thing had happened to them.
