Looking at buying a S-series dressage saddle, what is the point of a surface block compared to the more traditional flap over the top?(I'm sure there's a proper way to word that!!) Saddler is bringing both but wanted to know if there was a preference over the styles. Thank you!

I don't think there is any particular "point", it's just a design thing, unless it is so huge that they can't get the flap leather to form over it properly.

I tried both and preferred the look of the more traditional version but both my horse and I loved the surface block, it just suited the shape of us both better. Really pleased with the saddle and think its great value for money at £795 new and always get lots of lovely comments on it.

I think it's down to personal preference. I have the s series jump saddle and I have to say I absolutely love it. It's extremely comfortable and I feel very secure in it. It is really nicely made, for the money I think the kent and masters saddles are fab.
