Have just seern on telly woman from livery yard been banned for 5 years from keeping horses and given community service. She stated that the ponies were dumped on her yard and she had been feeding them? RSPCA brought prosecution. If this is true it complicates the abandoned horse situation somewhat.

we saw this earlier on today as well. It seems she involved horse charities after the horses were abandoned on her yard and she couldn't keep them. However given the condition of the horses and the fact that she was prosecuted I can only imagine that she must of had them there for some time before doing so. As it was her yard then under the new animal welfare rules she would have still been responsible for their welfare until the owners/charities took over the horses care. The part I didn't get was when she said she would lose her job working with horses as surely that wouldn't be the case as she was a yard hand and not running the yard she worked at. The ban stopped her from keeping horses not from being around them at all?

Hmm, I'd be very interested to know the name and location of this person. We are an accredited training yard ( equine studies students and people wanting to do NVQs etc) and also get lots of people wanting to work as yard assistants etc. We have two students atm, and no plans to take on any more, but wld like to make sure we know, as far as possible, who we would not want to have on the yard.
