My 14yr old dutch warmblood gelding has had ever increasing bouts of Keratitis and uveitis in both eyes over the last 3 years. The treatment is usually bute and optimmune for the Keratitis and maxitrol for the uveitis. He is also fed rosehips and echinacea. He wears a face mask in the field. I was just wondering what other people's experiences were with horses with either or both of these conditions. Any advice appreciated.

I had a mare with terrible uveitis - she always had sensitive eyes prone to infection but then one spring she just got worse and worse. Spent a fortune having blood spun into serum to drop in, antibiotics, masks - you name it. Eventually the vet said that there was little more that she could do so I tried homeopathy as a last resort.

I rang Ainsworths in London, had a free telephone consultation, the remedies arrived the next day, and within a week she was better!!! It was beyond amazing - we had struggled for so so long and I really thought she was going to loose the eye.

I would definately have a chat with them, even if you don't really believe in it, you have very little to loose, and it might just do the trick!

I PTS a horse with uveitis it was a terrible experiance he had no life was miserable and dangerous to handle during the flare ups he was very senestive and basically could only come out of the stable in the dark on wind free nights however a friends horse suffered one attack and lived to a ripe old age without suffering again.

Thanks mellie-rc. I have never heard of Ainsworths but have googled them and will give them a ring tomorrow. I am not really a believer but his attacks now are so frequent and are so difficult to get under control that I would consider trying homeopathic remedies.
