Hi, my horses has developed keratitis in one eye and is being treated for this with Optimmune eye ointment twice a day, he still gets some flare up's and has just had one. He is only 5 years old and I am going to one of the specialist at the end of this month and they are going to insert an implant into his eye which will administer the same treatment as I have been doing. Has anyone had any experience of this that could share with me. I appreciate that all horses are different and will of course respond differently but I just wanted to hear the good and the bad.

One of ours has a microsporen implant - lasts 18m to 2y then needs replacing. It was straightforward to put in and has worked really well. With the implant you would not know she has a problem with that eye to look at her. The only downside is that the implant supresses the immune system in the eye => a minor issue can flare up really quickly.

Thanks Ime, my horse went yesterday for the implant, unfortunately whilst we thought we caught it early they said it has progressed very quickly and are currently unsure if the implant is going to work and he is also going to need steroids in the affected eye.
