i think it's a kind of grading system? not sure.... but as for having heard of a horse have you tried the all (could be any - cant remember - doh!) horse breeding site? google it, you could find more info there about the horse and its relatives.
go to www.KWPN.nl and it tells you everyting you need to know. Ster means it has passed a certain standard then the others are how many youngstock its got that are approved as well.
keur is crown, ster is srar and preferent is prefered. It relates to the horse having graded its self and then if a stallion its young stock grading as riding horses or for the ster or keur pref they must have produced graded breeding stock, ie a graded stallion.
Horses in Holland are not branded just because of their breeding to get the KWPN brand they must go through a grading this information is then collated and is then credited to their sire and dan and dam's sire.Competiotion records are also kept of graded horses performance.
For registration in the studbook KWPN mares have to meet minimum requirements for movements and conformation. Better mares can earn the ster predicate at provincial ('central') selections/keuringen. The higher ranking keur predicate is only awarded to mares that have produced offspring and have passed a performance test with good results. To emphasize the importance of soundness, the KWPN created the 'PROK' and elite predicate for mares that passed extensive X-ray examination. Mares that have produced at least three offspring with remarkable conformations and actions receive the preferent predicate. When a minimum of three of her offspring perform excellently in the sport, a KWPN mare will receive the prestatie predicate, and if she performs well herself in dressage or showjumping or in harness, she may also be awarded the sport predicate.
