Looking at buying a new Kevin Parker Box in the near future, the Helios 7.5tonne.

Anyone got any experiences good or bad?

Things you wish you had fitted and things you couldn't live without?

This will be our 1st 7.5tonne from a 3.5tonne so lots of learning to do!

Thanks :D

A friend of mine has one, and she loves it. She has every gadget possible on it, and basically had it built to her exact specification. She loves the remote central heating, so she can turn it on while shes in the house, and by the time she gets in the box its lovely and warm. The only problem I seem to recall her mentioning was the horse partitions , I cant remember what the problem was but Kevin Parker sorted it out no problem. My friend is very particular, and if she likes them they must be good ! ( This is her 2nd one). If I had the money, I would without doubt have one too.

Hi Horsebox2014

I have a 7.5t Helios. It is their 2013 model. I absolutely love it. Built quality is very good, the special flooring in the horse area and ramp is brilliant, there is plenty of load capacity etc.

Things I couldn't do without are the underfloor storage (I spend a lot of weekends away and lots of kit goes in there), the gas oven, hob, fridge, heating etc. the loo, the horse wash off etc. The lovely interior with plenty of storage, the windows (black and set in) and general stylish appeal (I am a little shallow like that! Lol). Love the mood lighting. I like the microwave but could live without if need be. I've never used the TV.

Necessities (plug in, wash down, water tank) are well laid out and thought through. If you can weight wise, get a big horse & living water tank. Mine needs topping up frequently.

Their paint jobs are brilliant but it was a bit tricky to have it matched by my local horsebox maintenance person when I had a major repair on mine (managed to rip an underfloor locker off on a narrow bridge ... oops!)

Things I would do differently now - I'd perhaps place the tack locker differently. Mine is huge and takes up a lot of room in the horse area. I'd probably have it turned and slightly smaller so it only takes up space in the first partition or something like that.

I'd insist on airconditioning in the cab and fans in the horse area. There is plenty of ventilation with windows and roof windows but on a very hot day in the traffic jam or when on a boat it would be better to have additional fans for the neddies. I'd also quite like an automatic as we seem to spend a lot of time in traffic jams these days (although the gearbox is perfectly fine).

We went up to look at the build process of their boxes and I was very satisfied with the standard of workmanship and the safety features (stell box for the horse area etc). Kevin and his team are very helpful and take all the time in needs to guide you through your design and build and to answer any questions you may have.

Thoroughly recommended.

I'm very envious! I'm just in the process of selling my lorry as we're not competing anymore so are justing going to have a trailer. However, if I was replacing it and had the money this is the company I would use. He seems very switched on about payloads and building things to last. A friend from Greece had one built this year and is delighted with it, she previously had big name lorries but KP has really impressed her.

Love mine. I’m on my 3rd lorry from kevin - we outgrew our 7.5t so had a 12t built and then had a 4.5t aoes built for my dinosaur of a horse two years ago (19hh and built like a brick you-know-what house).

They’ve changed a few things since my Helios was built so they do listen to suggestions, and take them on board where they can.

i won’t use anyone else.

Love my lorry. Very expensive but well worth money. 4.5t Aeos. Kevin and team pay such attention to detail and safety of the horse is paramount. blood_magik our horse is 17hh bit smaller than yours :) but weighs in at 800kilo. (Shire type) He loves the air suspension.

Bit off topic but do you find keeping within the EU tacho regs a struggle?
