SO
today i decided to ride my boy up the lane just for a little walk, after he cut his leg last week. Picture...... the two long scrapes weren't too much of a worry, the smaller puncture wound lower down was what made me call the vet and what he was worried about
(ps this is actually his knee, not his hock! thats how swollen it got...)
I must have been worried as I never call the vet out - the knee swelled and he was walking as if it was a plank of wood without the hinge of a knee joint. So, vet came up, gave prognosis (poor, possibly damaged the joint/joint capsule/lost joint fluid or even fractured it ( :'( ) ect) and suggested referral if no improvement was made in 24 hrs. Anyway, after four injections of various potions, and a vets bill nearing £200, swelling gradually went down and lameness subsided. Vet has since decided that the joint is fine, it was just a severe reaction due to the location of the wound. That was tuesday 15th; he's been rested and gradually taken off bute since, which is why i decided to walk him out today as he was sound in the school on the lunge in walk and trot.
SO, i get him in tonight, and guess what, another wound on the opposite foreleg. I'm so used to him coming in with these scrapes and scratches (it happens on a very regular basis), but this is getting a bit ridiculous.
Latest!!
I THEREFORE PROPOSE a new invention - Kevlar jumpsuits for horses, specifically in 'stupid ginger TB' size (but looking at expansion into other sizes depending on the market demand) with reinforced eye, nose, mouth, poo and pee holes. Colour range will include mud-brown, poo-green and shocking pink (for those Katie Price fans).
What are my chances in the dragons den??
(cheers for listening to my rant, I invite any questions or comments
