Hi all, I have a 21 year old ex polo pony (only rehomed her about a year ago), she lives out all year round but I am thinking about trying her on Keyflow Golden Oldies (says its good to combat muscle wastage whilst providing support for joint mobility, muscle suppleness and gut health – as well as optimal function of the immune, circulatory and respiratory systems) - this is quite a pricey feed but if it is good then I'll buy it - just wondering if anyone else has tried it and what the results were? Thanks :)

All 9 of ours love PM... some took longer than others.

You need to add in bit by bit the new stuff... creep it in their normal stuff. You need to add new stuff over 10 days min anyway or else thier digestive system does not adapt and you get issues.

From what I remember the fattening ingredient is rice bran,https://keyflowfeeds.com/horse-feeds/golden-oldies/. Its has a DE of 13, so if you are just looking for weight gain there are cheaper options and it looks as if soya is a now a main ingredient.
You can buy d soya flour for about £19 a sack,
https://www.nesanimalhealth.co.uk/red-mills---full-fat---soya---25kg-10318-p.asp and use about two mugs a day. It has a DE of 17ish

Soya hulls are very different to soya flour though. Having looked at the ingredients I'd just feed pink mash and add a top dressing of rice bran pellets if you need weight gain.

I have to admit the marketing of horse feeds really annoys me. Most of it being sold is just cheap fillers, and the by-products of the food industry. Cattle feed which basically uses the same ingredients, but in different proportions. Its sold in 25kg bags when bagged, and is far cheaper. Yes the soya hulls are different, there is more fibre in it, it has a DE of 11.8.

I was just suggesting there are cheaper ways to get weight gain, the Keyflow is about £36 a bag, it hasn't got a very high DE so you would have to feed a fair amount of it. Most of the conditioning feeds now have a DE of 12, how ever they are formulated.
