HI everyone

After yers of 'putting up' with the pain from gallstones, I finally had my gallbladder removed on Wednesday. It was a laparoscopic (keyhole) cholecystectomy so hopefully that means the recovery will be shorter.

I have already posted to see how long it was before everyone was back riding etc...but would be interested to hear anymore advice on recovery as i am desperate to get back on as soon as poss!

Thanks for any advice!

Had mine done in jan 2004 on a Thursday was back to work on the Monday, was in no pain so seemed no reason to sit around. Of course only do what you think is ok for you, my sister was off for ages. I had a cyst removed at the same time as my gall bladder. then gave birth in the November, it was a busy year.

I had mine removed in 2007, thought I was fine but spent the next 6 weeks in hospital very ill, it went all wrong, had liver failure and a horrendous abdominal infection that caused worse pain than the original gall stones.

Take it easy and don't rush, I've no idea why mine went so wrong, but doing too much too quickly was thought to play a part :(

No idea, but having had a gall stone attack - I guess any recovery period is better than the pain, and the low fat diet that goes with it!

Two girls at work have had it - one was back in a few days, the other took a long time as she had a bad reaction to being pumped full of air - or whatever it is they do to you.

Hope your recovery is speedy

Should as I have a low fat diet, can't touch meat, live of salad. I also can't lose weight. On Monday I go to hospital as I can't remember the last time I had a solid poop, from what I understand this can be a problem related to the op.

If all has gone straightforward then 2 weeks should be fine and then back to gentle riding and build yourself up - of course taking into account how your feeling.

The main thing you want to be avoiding for a few weeks is any particular strain on the main port site (the one in your belly button) to avoid a post op hernia - so no very heavy lifting for a couple weeks or so but as you've had it done laparoscopically you should be fine.

Im guessing it wont be long until your outpatients appointment so why not wait til then and let them check your progress?
Listen to what your body is telling you would be my main advice!

I had my gallbladder out last november.
I put my horse out to grass before going into hospital, he went out middle of Nov and was in before xmas!
I found I recovered pretty quickly but was quite sore for a couple of weeks.
Best thing I ever did, no more awful pain!
Get well soon!
