Keyhole surgery?

My horse who's been badly lame for 6 months now has finally been referred to a decent vet and after doing nerve block and x-rays we've agreed to go for keyhole surgery on her stifle to allow the vet to find out what the problem really is and if fixable he'll sort it there and then.

She's going in Tuesday and will have the op on Weds, i know in the grand scheme of things this is only minor surgery but having never had a problem with a horse before it's always been a bit of a fear of mine about horses having surgery. Have heard horror stories about horses breaking legs as they go to get up afterwards etc. can anyone put my mind at rest and tell me this doesn't happen very often?

I think they normally break legs if they already have an injury rather than after exploratory work. Of course there is always a slight risk with a GA - I think this is estimated at about 1%. If your horse is badly lame then I would hink this is a risk worth taking. I would, however, just inform your insurance company beforehand to check that surgery is covered.
