Kia Sorento - anyone have a bad experience?

So I'm possibly trading in my ailing Shogun for a new Kia Sorento in the next few weeks.

Everyone seems to rave about them and thinks they are fantastic tow cars and also very good for daily driving but after the bad luck I've had with cars recently I want to make doubly sure the Sorento is a good option.

I need something reliable that won't cost me £1500 after owning it for 3 months!!!

So - who has had problems with the Sorento?

What was your issue and how old was your car?

Are the parts very expensive?

Seem to be really good reviews about it but I do remember a member on here having problems towing. It was a jerky ride, trailer checked, fine, car checked, fine. Not sure what the outcome was. Maybe if you search Kia Sorento, you may find it?
 
Yeah I found that one - that was the only negative comment I could find so I'm hoping the are as good as they appear to be!
 
I love mine - had it nearly three years, approaching 90,000 miles, still going strong. Only problem so far is a stone punched a hole in my aircon unit - £400 to fix! That happened a couple of months ago, at the 85,000 miles mark, although I gather it was a freak accident.

Tows like a dream, it's not particularly speedy or luxurious, but for that price I don't expect it to be. Servicing doesn't come cheap - every 10,000 miles, and the cost alternates each time between approx £300 and approx £500 as it needs something more doing every 20,000 miles.

Can I be cheeky Becky and ask how old yours is? I'm trying to work out if the older ones (2003/2004) are just as good as the newer models.

Interesting about the servicing - what sort of issues arise in the servicing?

Mine is 2005 (55) plate, the XS model. I had to have the brake pads replaced at about 55,000 miles, but other than that, there's not been any extras coming out of the servicing, just the standard cost. Always passed MOT first time. It is ultra-reliable. I'm trying to decide whether to sell it now and get a similar-aged one with fewer miles on the clock, or whether to keep going until it conks out. The service garage reckons I'll get 160-180k miles out of it which is another 4 years or so for me with my mileage.
 
Have had mine from new - it is an XS on a 05 plate, diesel, and has done 74,000 miles so far. Adore it and have not had any issues with it at all, and just have my local garage mot and service it. The only money I have spent out is on routine things such as new tyres, brake pads etc.
Fab tower and can't fault it, and love the heated seats on the way home from a wet days hunting! Would be very suprised if you found anyone who has had a bad experience....

Love mine. It's an 03 XS done about 80,000 miles and owned it for about 3 years. I've had a couple of issues with mine but none would put me off getting another one.

Every so often it wont go above 2000 revs, don't know why and prob happens once every 6 months but it's almost like a self survival thing as if it thinks it has a problem. All I've done is pull over, turn the engine off, turn it on again and it clears the problem.

The steering has gone v heavy a couple of times. Seems to be in slow traffic but not every time im in slow traffic. Steering just appears to get v slowly heavier and heavier (to the point where Im using 2 hands to turn it) but again I just pull over turn engine off, then on again and it's fixed.

Can't remember what exactly happened but year or so ago it gradually stopped starting. Took it to the garage and something like one of the injectors wasn't working in the engine. That had to be replaced at a cost of about £500.

Don't know if anyone else find this but they are v light steering wise. My BF hates driving my car as he feels like the 'steering isnt attached to the wheels' as he puts it. I think it's just a case that the steering is VERY light which I actually like as I've driven other 4x4s and found them v heavy.
