Wanted some advice please. A pony on our yard got kick on hock 10 days ago, vet came out straight away bandaged and gave antibiotics etc. He's been having bandage change by us every other day since and has been showing improvement every day until today. Cut looks great pretty much healed up but pony is suddenly very lame. Could he have infection inside this long after injury? What else could it be? Thanks

Sorry to say that this sounds the same as an injury my horse got some years ago. Kicked on the hock, went lame a few days later. Got vet out and she sent him straight to the horsepital where he had to stay for a few days. Luckily he didn't need an op but it was still horrendously expensive. Apparently joint injuries have to be taken very seriously due to risk of infection. Admittedly mine went lame after 3 or 4 days so I hope this isn't the case for you. I'd give the vet a ring though.

Should add horse made full recovery although hock now excluded on insurance (of course!)

It 's presumably not your pony, but if it were mine I would certainly phone vet for advice today, and have him out first thing on Monday.
Today I would poultice and bandage to try to open it up, this may not work, but it is all you can do until he is examined. Obviously check the complete leg, as it may be something else, take the temperature as you need to know if infection is raging.

Sounds like a joint infection. IMO the vet should have flushed the joint and not just cleaned and bandaged. This is now an emergency which cannot wait for tomorrow. Get vet out and expect a referral to an equine hospital.

Get the vet, infection may be in or close to the hock joint. My mare got kicked close to hock top of splint bone which shattered and it was touch and go as vet said this close can lead to hock infection which is dangerous and can me life threatening.

Please don't wait as antibiotics are more than likely need, maybe even to flush the joint out. Some kicks on the hock or near the hock can lead to synovial fluid leaking out which is also very bad.

VET asap

Not to alarm you, but my old horse was kicked just above the hock. Vet came out, he had antibiotics etc., he was PTS 3 weeks later with a broken hindleg. He'd been almost totally sound (vet was out and did a flexion test the day before he was PTS) but it seems he'd had a hairline fracture which then split open during the night one night. I would get x-rays done ASAP.
