Seriously unhappy!
Was having a lesson on my little superstar (14th and regional champs on sunday!

) all was going well until one of the other liveries came in the school to ride her horse.

Its a 20x60m school and there was two of us in the lesson and we were manging to ride round each other happily.
We were circling in the middle of the school when the other livery lost control of her horse, rode into the side of my mare and her horse double barelled us.

He got my ankle and my mares ribs, she seemed very shook up and then went very tight and couldnt even trot- to the point where she was almost lame.

Too cut a long story short (realised im rambling) she now has a hoof print on her ribs (this happened on tuesday) and 9" of swelling under her tummy.
I've had the vet out twice and the vet thinks there is serious chance that she might have cracked her ribs.

She only a little TB mare and the horse that kicked her is a middle weight hunter. And im super miffed cos she could have not caused this accident by riding in the other school or actually learning to control her horse.

Has anyone had this injury before? How did your horse react?
How long did it take it get over it?

Sorry just seriously worried about my lil mare!

Poor little mare - what an unfortunate accident.

If nothing other than bruising I would imagine it is going to be some time before your girl feels better. Is she going to be x-rayed?

How rude to come into the school during your lesson, when there is another school available. Hope you and your mare feel better soon.

What an awful situation, I hope she's going to pay your vets bill.

Poor you and poor pony, Can't say I've had experience of this injury but my current mare does have a 'dent' in her ribs from an old injury before I had her, it's really noticable at the moment due to the weight she lost at the last yard but it doesn't affect her.
Hope your both feeling better soon.

Poor mare, my last horse took a kick from another horse in the field and it swelled up huge too, it was also on his side. Nothing broken though, just very sore.
Hope your little mare is okay, the owner of the horse that kicked her should apologise profusely and offer to pay the vet bill. It was very bad manners to come into the school while you were having a lesson, especially if another school was available.

I presume you are insured - unfortunately having recently had to fill in a claim form there was a section which asked if anyone else was responsible for the injury. You need to identify the other person and let your insurance company contact her.

Horses are unpredictable so I am not sure that she could have predicted the accident, unless the horse has a history of being uncontrollable. She will need to be wary in the future because she will be held liable if it ever happens again though because it does have a history now.

I saw a gelding who jumped down a revene and then went head over heels. He had broken every rib - I wish I had a picture of the x-ray. Ribs are made to expand and contract, so it is not a like kicking a knww or something.
