Brought my boy in today and he appears to have been kicked inside his hock area, that rather pony bit about an inch below the hock and inside. The wound isnt deep, no puncture wound, and looks more to be a nasty graze, probably about 2.5" long downwards. Have gently pressed around the area and horse doesnt flinch or feel fluidy.Taken the skin off and little bit of blood. The area itself doesnt appear to be particularly hot or swollen, although boy is a little reluctant to fully weight bear for a considerable period of time. He doesn't look lame, just a little sluggish, which is to be expected as i expect it jolly hurts!! I've cleaned, sprayed it, given him a powder this evening and one in the morning. I think it looks worse then it is. Shall I cold hose/ice as well. Since it only happened today, i'm expecting it to swell of r afew days, and then cool and start to scab etc. Would you be doing anything differently? many thanks! The vet is here in the moring for his jabs, so i may ask them just to check.

I think you've thought of just about everything! :) you could try putting some antiseptic/wound cream on it if it is going to get dirty, as that will help to minimise the amount of bacteria that get into the cut. I wouldn't put water on it as this can provide an ideal climate for bacteria xx
