My 3 year old getting got kicked a few weeks back and it was cleaned and what not. He was fully sound, no heat, it wasnt a deep cut just a nick but it seems that when he is out it swells and when he is in it reduces in size. So, i kept him in and he went loopy and it went down slightly, then i turned him back out and it got bigger again. Someone i know who is very knowledgeable said it is a splint and she wouldnt bother getting the vet. Please dont say get the vet because thats not my question. Any ideas what it is? How to treat it?

Looks like a haematoma to me - it might go eventually if it is, but one of mine had one for years from a kick in a very similar position. I think they're a sort of blood blister, but I'm sure there are people here who will know better than me. Might be able to get it drained?

I am on phone and can't see picture that well but mine had a large haematoma recently. It was better when he was out and walking around as this helps to disperse it whereas in the stable it tended to swell up more. If it is a haematoma they can take months to disperse. I would be inclined to get vet to have a look to be honest.

A haematoma doesnt go up and down, its strange that it " fills" when out and is better on rest, i would phone and discuss it with the vet, and im sure theyd advise a visit, so i know you dont want to here it, but that imo is what you need to hear sorry
