Hullo,

just found ponio with a huge near back leg.

Have chucked bute, hosing, a bit of walking and bonner bandage at it and it has now come down somewhat to reveal an egg shaped lump on the inside/front of the cannon bone, just above the fetlock joint. Seems to be a soft tissue lump.

We were due to ride in first comp of the year (sigh, things always go wrong, so haven't managed to get anywhere to compete so far this year!) on Sunday, so any idea if we have a chance of getting there if it is just a bruise?

Lunged him v. briefly to see how lame he was, and he wasn't comfortable in trot, but also didn't want to come down to walk, so musn't have been that bad.

If it's not looking good tomorrow I'll get the vet, but I'm pretty sure its a kick and brusing.

I'll keep him in tonight and throw more bute at him along with cold treatments and bandaging in the morning - any other ideas?

Why do we bother......having had grass sickness, sarcoids, sweet itch and a whole year off last year due to mystery lameness, it would be nice if our luck changed a little, just for once!

PS - no trauma at all to the leg - no cuts or nicks and field mate not shod.

Poor you!
Bit of a bugger this one...but you don't say what you will be competing in...
My benchmark would be if the swelling and ouchiness has gone by Friday night....I would go to the show.
If not...there is always another show!
You have to remember that the bute will be hiding the extent of the pain.....and travelling may well exacerbate the swelling...
I am off to my first show for 13 months as I have been out with a leg injury myself...so good luck if you go.....and jaffa cakes and hot chocolate if you don't:)

Yes, I think Friday night will be the cut off.

He's not very ouchy in terms of poking and prodding it at all, so it will be the lunge that will tell.

Bute will mask any pain, but will give it over the next 24 h at least, as want to stop the inflammatory cascade.

I have soo been looking forward to this (it's a mini ODE - very mini) and we had a great XC lesson on Monday so all was going to plan.....apart from him pulling a shoe off his near fore and the trailer ramp going through (somewhat ironic as we had just replaced the floor as a precaution, even though it didn't really need doing - turns out the ramp needed it more!).

Maybe someone is trying to tell me something....!

Will happily accept the hot chocolate if I can't go and maybe the odd jaffa cake Bryndu (really hoping I won't need them!). Enjoy your show!

Aha...I have the answer...but it is not the one you are going to want to hear I fear...
If leaving the ground is involved......jaffa cakes and hot chocolate at home I'm afraid...
Also...if you do go you will spend the entire time worrying if you are doing the right thing ....won't enjoy yourself...and wish you hadn't gone!
Thanks for the good luck wishes...I shall be sparing a thought for you and your beast munching on the jaffas:)

Depends on your hoss I guess. BH I would put money being ok to jump by Sunday with something like that. Nitty I know would absolutely not make it.

Well, he is a Brown Horse, so hopefully will take after yours!

Put him to bed for the night now, and leg still a bit filled....hmmmm. See what the morning brings......I see vets in the future for peace of mind if nothing else......

Bryndu....*fingers in ears*....I'm not listening to you, can't hear what you say!!!!!! (but rest assured if he's not right, we won't be going).

Should I take the unschooled 17hh 5 year old instead for a laugh.....have a feeling I might be the injured one then!
