Just announced on ATR, they've decided to retire Kicking King.
Lovely horse, a fantastic record, and how he stood up in that King George I'll never know........

I saw him win at Chletenham, what a serious racehorse he was.

A Cheltenham Gold Cup, A Puchestown Gold Cup, two King George's, second in an Arkle and second in a Supreme Novices amongst his runs.
They've decided to retire him because they feel he'll never come back to the horse he was before his injury. Good decision, I think.

So happy retirement, KK, you were some horse........

Have just read the story on the post and even though I have backed him ante post for the gold cup ( did last year too) just in case he came back to form I don't feel done by in any way at all.
The right decision was made in my opinion.
Last year he put in a sparkling performance first time up but then his efforts were laboured and to me he just didn't look right. He failed to pick up at all behind War of Attrition ( also backed ante post before race too at very long odds) last time and to me the writing was on the wall.
For a true champion like this chaser formerly was it is far better to retire with some dignity then none at all in my opinion.
It is no good him plying his trade around the Ire tracks hoping to pick up some prize money because he just cannot muster it against the younger and more talented brigade, especially with Nicholls now seemingly being tempted to run his charges across the Irish Sea.
He was a great horse for Taaffe and I hope he enjoys a long an happy retirement

All the best old boy x
