kicking out back legs and squealing when there is nothing behind

hasanyone experienced this problem. does this when changing rugs either in the stable or outside. Also does this whilst out in the field but does not do it when being ridden or tacked up. She is an older horse. We have had her about six months but previous owners say she did not do it with them. She also does it in the stable when the rugs are not being changed. There is nothing round her at the times when she does it. Would appreciate any ideas

I have two mares that do this when they're in season - not as badly as yours as they don't do it when being handled but they certainly do it in the field when they're around other horses

The joy of a marish mare !

Friend of mine had an elderly TB mare who would back herself up to the post and rail, lift her tail and rub her vulva on the rails, squeal, squirt and kick out. Caused plenty of damage to herself and the fencing. She ended up having electric on the inside of the main fence.
